Class Assignment

Paper 3 and Presentation Guidelines from Prof Root:

Over the semester, this course has exposed you to many groups that are either traditionally outsiders, or that are viewed with suspicion by dominant groups in America today. Those include LGBQT individuals, Muslims, African Americans, women, the poor, etc. Choose one of these groups and conduct research that allows you to deepen your understanding of the diversity within or experiences of each of these groups. For example, your paper might explore why recent years have witnessed increased tension between Sunni and Shiite Muslims globally, or how the challenges gay rights activists face differ in Russia and the US, or the major obstacles to the full realization of women’s rights in Afghanistan, etc.

You need a minimum of 6 SCHOLARLY sources cited in the text of your paper and included in the Works Cited list. You may have addition scholarly and non-scholarly (but still reputable) sources, but you must have a minimum of 6 scholarly ones. Paper 3 is a research paper, so part of the point of the assignment is to become familiar with library databases to find scholarly journal articles, in addition to scholarly books.
